
On October 20, 1911, His Royal Highness Frederick II, Grand Duke of Baden, approved the society’s charter and granted it the status of a body incorporated under public law pursuant to Section 9 of the Second Constitutional Edict of July 14, 1807. Eight days later, on October 28, 1911, the founding of the Academic Society was officially announced by Privy Councillor Dr Albert Bürklin from Freiburg, who was at that point the Deputy Chairperson of the Second Chamber of the Diet of the Grand Duchy of Baden. The history of one of the oldest university societies still in existence in Germany today had begun. Highlights thus far have included the celebration of its centenary in 2011.
